Invest in Clean Water

Businesses and municipalities in the Greater Portland area rely on the pure water from Sebago Lake to produce high-quality products, serve clients, build their brand, and support the health of their communities. Because the water is so pure, it requires minimal treatment by the Portland Water District. Loss of forestland could degrade water quality to the point where intensive, costly treatment may be necessary in order to meet regulatory standards.

Sebago Clean Waters is building a water fund from public and private sources to help conserve the Sebago-area forestland that keeps Greater Portland’s water clean without artificial filtration. Businesses and downstream cities and towns are key to helping us meet our goal of raising $15 million to conserve an additional 15% (35,000 acres) of the watershed.

By contributing to the Sebago Clean Waters Fund, businesses, municipalities, and individuals can help permanently conserve the watershed forestlands that protect our waters. Portland Water District will supplement these donations with support for individual land conservation projects to further the impact of the fund. These initial investments will also help accelerate state, federal, and private funding.
